December 10, 2009 -- The Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society jointly presented the inaugural Ken Kennedy Award to Fran Berman (external link) for her leadership in building a national-scale cyberinfrastructure for access, use, curation and preservation of digital data.
Berman is vice president for research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In her previous position as director of the San Diego Supercomputer Center, she brought her expertise to the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program with Chronopolis and other large-scale digital-preservation projects.
The Library of Congress has named Berman a Digital Pioneer. She also co-chairs the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Sustainable Digital Preservation and Access (external link).
