February 4, 2010 -- The Blue Ribbon Task Force on Sustainable Digital Preservation and Access (external link) will hold a one-day symposium to discuss the economic challenge of preserving valuable data assets.

The symposium will be held April 1, 2010, in Washington, D.C., and will provide a forum for discussing recommendations of the task force final report (forthcoming).  Leaders from the Executive Office of the President, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Smithsonian Museum, Nature Magazine, Google and other organizations will participate.

During 2008 and 2009, the Task Force explored multiple facets of economic sustainability.  Sponsors of the work are the National Science Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Library of Congress, the U.K.’s Joint Information Systems Committee and the Council on Library and Information Resources.
