June 7, 2010 -- The Best Practices Exchange 2010 (external link) will be held in Phoenix, AZ from September 29-October 1, 2010.
BPE is not a conventional conference but a unique in event in which attendees present their projects and experiences, successes, failures and lessons learned around managing and preserving digital assets.
The conference is open to practitioners in government and university archives and libraries; educators and researchers in the fields of library science, information science, technology, archives, and records management; and product developers exploring the challenges of preserving and providing accessed to digital data.
This year’s program is supported by the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program and will feature presentations from the four States Initiatives projects funded by the program under the Preserving State Government Information initiative.
Additionally, the program will include exchange sessions with presentations by individuals working in the field, followed by facilitated discussion. These grass-roots sessions are informal and collaborative. Attendees are encouraged to ask many questions and offer their own perspectives. The theme of this year’s conference is "Libraries and Archives in the Digital Era," with tracks dedicated to New Ways of Working, New Tools, New Media and Policy and Administration.
There is no registration fee to attend, but there is a registration deadline of August 25, 2010. There are also a limited number of scholarships available that cover three nights in the conference hotel for those who make presentations. To qualify, individuals must submit a successful proposal for a presentation and accompany this proposal with a brief statement indicating their need for this funding. The deadline for proposals (external link) is June 30.
There is also a one day pre-conference Digital Preservation Management Workshop (external link) scheduled for Sep 28, 2010 from 9 am - 5 pm.
