CIESIN logoAugust 17, 2010 -- The Library of Congress and Columbia University are continuing with their work on a web-based clearinghouse of information about best practices for preserving significant geospatial data.

The National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program is working with the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) (external link) at Columbia’s Earth Institute on the preliminary requirements for the clearinghouse.

CIESIN is currently conducting research to gain insight into potential uses and users of the geospatial data preservation clearinghouse and to inform its development. They have established a survey to assist them in their efforts. The brief, anonymous survey is available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XVTT92P (external link), and all interested community members are encouraged to provide input.

Based on the results of their requirements-gathering, CIESIN will launch a beta version of the clearinghouse later this year.
